Carrie Thornhill is a retired non-profit executive with over 50 years of experience leading and managing education, housing, and community economic development organizations of varying size and scope.   She is a noted community leader, community builder, and community activist on issues of community engagement and public policy, locally and nationally.  Carrie is an experienced manager of people, issues, and financial assets, and works effectively with grass roots, grass tops and all in between.   Thornhill has been called upon to serve in several notable civic capacities as a Mayoral appointee and volunteer on public and private sector entities including the DC Board of Education, the DC Board of Zoning Adjustment, The University of the District of Columbia, and the Eugene & Agnes Meyer Foundation ton.  She has also been the primary architect of 6 successful non-profit organizations and recipient of many prominent honors, awards, and citations over-time.

Carrie collaborated with others to lead the community mobilization campaign that resulted in universal preschool for 3 and 4 year olds in the District of Columbia at a cost of $15,000 per child.  The District outranks all jurisdictions in the country in public investments in early care and education of young children.

Currently, Carrie serves as President of the DC Early Learning Collaborative, Chair of the Dunbar Alumni Federation, the Ward 7 Business Partnership and the Board of Trustees of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church of Washington, DC.
